JANUS – Museum of Contemporary Art
Contemporary art in West Jutland
For more than 50 years, JANUS has been a cultural powerhouse—known by various names, but always with art at its core. Today, the museum presents changing exhibitions with highlights from the extensive collection, featuring works by both established names and new talents.
The name JANUS is no coincidence. In Roman mythology, Janus is a god with two faces—one looking back and one looking forward. He is the symbol of transitions, beginnings and change. This reflects our ambition to be a museum built on experience and tradition, while also keeping our eyes on what is new and emerging.

The museum is closed for the winter.
Reopens on 27 January 2027 with a new exhibition.

A museum rich in tradition
JANUS provides the setting for the long-standing juried Artists’ Summer Exhibition and has historically been associated with Vestjyllandsudstillingen, which can still be experienced today. Until 2020, JANUS was run by the Janus Association, an association that is still active, which you can read more about via this link.
